Private Healthcare is No. 1 Cause of Personal Bankruptcy Increase

The number 1 reason for personal bankruptcy in U.S. is the inability to pay health bills. Contrary to what many individuals who are financial solvent think, according to latest studies, between 60-75% of people filing bankruptcy is due to increasing health bills, not because of “living beyond their means.” This is just one more reason in addition to plain COMMON SENSE, that we need public healthcare available to all U.S. Citizens.

Projections show that 2009 bankruptcy filings will be 28.2% to 36.4% greater than 2008. (Reported by Credit Slips Organization)

Happy People Index – Who Knew?

Yes, there is something called a Happy People Index (HPI). HPI measures how much a country uses the Earth's resources and how long and happy a life their citizens enjoy as a result. First calculated in 2006, this year Costa Rica tops the list as the world’s greenest and happiest country. Unlike other economic measures, HPI is a much better way of looking the success of countries than through standard measures of economic growth. Countries with the fastest growing economies such as China and the U.S. are not greener and happier than they were 20 years ago. “The HPI suggests that the path we have been following is, without exception, unable to deliver all three goals: high life satisfaction, high life expectancy and 'one-planet living'," says Saamah Abdallah, New Economics Foundation Researcher and the report's lead author. "Instead we need a new development model that delivers good lives that don't cost the Earth for all." Visit www.happyplanetindex.org for details.

Petition to the U.N. on Global Healing: One Hectare, One Eco-village, & One Nation at a Time

Over 11 Million People strong, this is not just another one of those email petitions you receive that you sign and it goes off in the ethers. This is something we can all join. It is in support of the immediate creation and promotion of sustainable family-plot permaculture land development. A proposal to the United Nations is appropriate because this is truly a global issue, crossing all boundaries, and gives new purpose to why the U.N. was formed. Let us not forget their mission statement:

WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS DETERMINED

•  to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and

•  to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and

•  to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and

•  to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom

So please take a moment of your time and sign the petition by clicking here. Thank you for participating and the people who put this proposal together.

European City has Meat-free Day to Reduce Co2 Emissions

In May of this year, a city in Belgium decided to do an experiment to make every Thursday a day of no meat or fish. Organizers cite UN data arguing that meat production and consumption are to blame for 18 per cent of greenhouse gases - more than cars. "If everyone in Flanders does not eat meat one day a week, we will save as much CO2 in a year as taking half a million cars off the road," the association says. "This is not a plan for everyone to be forced into vegetarianism," said Wim Coenen, a vegan who works as an importer of vegetarian pet food from Italy. "But it will reduce our carbon footprint. The basic premise is to introduce a way of lessening our meat consumption."The revolution began last Thursday with a foodie festival at the vegetable market. Ninety thousand town maps listing the best eateries for the meat-shy were handed out. Recipe booklets and food samples were distributed, with fair trade wine to wash down the nibbles.

EarthCURE’s own Darwin & Einstein Awards, recently renamed Devolved & Testein Awards. The new names reflect the nature of Darwin recipients being de-evolved consciously and while we still honor Albert Einstein, we want to give credit where credit is due to Nikola Tesla. This is a remarkable man who gave the world many different inventions, most based on free and renewable energy sources. Click here to see our latest winners and a brief summary of Tesla’s inventions.
